Lviv National Academy of Arts (LNAA) is one of the leading higher educational institutions of the 4th level of accreditation of Ukraine and Central and Eastern Europe. It was founded in 1946 on the basis of Lviv Art and Industrial School, known since 1876. The institution functioned as Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Art up to 1994 and as Lviv Academy of Arts up to 2004. The founders of the higher artistic school are the world-famous artists, architects, art experts Yevhen Nahirnyi, Mykola Fediuk, Yosyp Bokshai, Ivan Severa, Roman Selskyi, Carlo Zvirynskyi, Emmanuil Mysko, Dmytro Krvavych, Yakym Zapasko, Zenovii Flinta, Myron Vendzylovych, Danylo Dvoboshynskyi, Volodymyr Ovsiichuk, Yevhen Lysyk, Oleh Minko, Bohdan Soroka, etc. The educational process at Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative ArtSince in September 1946 started at painting and decorative, sculpture and ceramic, furniture and interior, textiles and applied graphics departments. Further professional knowledge directions as well developed from other organizational structures established in Lviv, in particular the Free Academy of Art (1905), Oleksa Novakivskyi’s Art School (1923), the Association of Ukrainian Artists (1922), “Artes” artistic group (1929), the Association of Independent Ukrainian Artists (1931), etc. The educational process comprised the creative and pedagogical methodology from academic realism, impressionism to diverse modernist movements, which managed to preserve the important criteria of free creative search amid the totalitarian society standards thus determining the future development perspective of LNAA as a credible national career school of the European standard.
