The State under the leadership of former Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim FNIQS, FNIAE found it necessary to establish a State Polytechnic along-side the Federal Polytechnic particularly to provide for studies, training, research and development of techniques in Applied Science, Engineering, Management and Commerce as well as other spheres of learning such as Biotechnology, Solar Energy studies, Leather Technology, publishing, Desert studies and Petroleum Engineering. Hence, a bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the Yobe State Polytechnic was enacted by the Yobe State House of Assembly on 30th October 2002. The polytechnic was sited at Geidam.
