This History of the National University of Jujuy intends to reflect the years of work, perseverance and effort of the men and women who integrated it and currently integrate it. That is why we intend to exhibit its main achievements from the various institutions that comprise it. Far from a triumphalist ideal -or from History as progress- it is necessary to understand that, from its creation in 1972 to the present, our university went through a period of our history marked by debacles and crises of all kinds and that, at times, it was particularly hard on public education. It is in this framework -in which planning and executing a long-term development has been a great challenge- is where the members of this institution managed to build, consolidate and expand our university. Within the collective imaginary, universities are usually thought of as spaces reduced to the classroom, where the professor dictates a "master class" to his students. However, universities are much more complex institutions. It is important to highlight that they have been and are currently the place, par excellence, for the development of scientific research and the training of new researchers in our country. But our house of studies has not only been driven by teachers and researchers, but also by the body of "non-teachers" (a somewhat poor and non-descriptive term to cover a fundamental sector of our university) who carry out a wide range of functions –administration, press, cleaning, publishing, extension, culture, among many others - without which our institution could not function. Nor should we forget the students that make it up, who have had an active role in the construction of UNJu and are, ultimately, those who determine its future.
