In September 2001, on the initiative of Moroccan university professors resident in Canada, Université Laval and the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) in collaboration with Moroccan businessmen, l 'Institut Polytechnique Privé de Casablanca started its teaching activities by offering 4 programs of genius: electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering and electromechanical engineering. These programs, developed entirely by Laval University, are among the 10 largest Canadian universities and would enable Moroccan and African students to acquire internationally-recognized skills in Moroccan soil highly sought after by African industry. The objective was and still is to offer the first three years of the program in Casablanca and the possibility of completing the last 2 years of the engineering curriculum either in Canada or in Morocco.
