Universidad del Norte Santo Tomás de Aquino was officially recognized as such and endowed with Legal Status by Decree No. 6257 of the Executive Power of the Nation, on August 6, 1965. The seed of UNSTA began to germinate back in 1949, when the Dominican friars of the Convent of Santo Domingo de Tucumán brought together, by natural affinity and cultural ascendancy, a group of intellectuals and artists from the milieu who began to give a fervent impulse to a crowd of philosophical, doctrinal and aesthetic concerns, which little by little are reflected in classes, seminars, articles and conferences of increasingly notorious repercussion. Thus began the Thomistic Philosophy courses, which continued until 1956, eventually constituting the Santo Tomás de Aquino University Institute. Later, in 1959, the Institute achieves its annexation to the Catholic University of Córdoba and, from this new institutional instance, the Institute's activity does not stop, but with new achievements and foundations, this rich process reaches its culmination when It grants recognition to our institution as Universidad del Norte Santo Tomás de Aquino. The efforts of the Dominican community and the people of Tucuman had borne fruit. The coming of age reached by our House as of that date means sixty years of uninterrupted growth, both academically, administratively and in the community. The exchanges and contributions with the media, both from Tucumán and from the country and abroad, are of such magnitude that it is impossible to summarize them in this brief review. UNSTA is animated by its visionary founders, a spirit of true Universitas Magistrorum et Scholarium, that is, of deep understanding between the different levels of its community. University that is a field of universal responses to the needs of regional and national development, ready to commit to evangelizing culture in all fields of systematic, unsystematic, undergraduate, distance and postgraduate education. The UNSTA faculty are also attentive recipients of the concerns of eminent professors and intellectuals from our country and the world, who thus incorporate the university classrooms of the Argentine Northwest to the latest resonances of contemporary intelligence. And the serene, coherent, firm and silent work of the entire community, in more than sixty-four years of real existence of the institution, has contributed to a great extent for all this to be so.
