Descriptions

On November 1, 1971 Salima Technical College opened its doors. It was known as Youth Rural Trade School The initial intake was a group of 75 farmers selected from the central region lakeshore development area. This was Salima Agricultural Development Division’s (SLADD) initiative. The project was funded by the Federal Republic of Germany. The aim of the initiative was to impart knowledge and skills to farmers necessary for descent homes and energy saving farm implements. Metal work and building were the courses found suitable for the objectives However in 1975 Salima Technical College was taken away from the hands of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and given to Ministry of Youth and Sports. During this time only Young Pioneers were recruited and selected to this college Youths were targeted so that they do not indulge in bad activities. Vegetable growing was also introduced. Ministry of Youth and Sports changed name to Ministry of Youth, Gender and Community Services. It pleased the president in February 1998 to direct that Salima Technical College should be under the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training. From that time until now, it is the youth that have completed their secondary school that are selected for training at this college In 2006 it changed again to Ministry of Education Science and Technology and on 16th July,2012 it changed to Ministry of Labour.
