Situated along the Masauko Chipembere Highway in Blantyre, The Polytechnic was established with the aim of providing technical expertise and developing apprenticeship programmes for Malawi. Initial programme offered at the college were craft and apprenticeship modules leading to qualifications granted by the City and Guilds of London. In 1967 the Polytechnic became one of the constituent colleges of the University of Malawi offering diplomas and degrees in fields of commerce and engineering. Over the years, the portfolio of programmes at the Polytechnic has grown to meet the ever-changing demands of the local and global market. The Polytechnic continues to make significant strides towards realizing and maintaining its vision of being a centre of excellence in the provision of scientific and technological education and training for sustainable development in a dynamic world. The multidisciplinary nature of the college and professional oriented programmes on offer put the Polytechnic in a unique position to meet multifaceted needs of the country.
