Descriptions

The University School of Theology was born from the proposal of the Diocesan Presbytery, made to the Bishop of Mar del Plata, in the Priestly Days of October 1967. It was created by the Superior Council of the Catholic University of Mar del Plata, on February 14, 1968. It received the canonical approval of the Bishop of Mar del Plata, Msgr. Enrique Rau, on March 14, 1968. It began its activities with various short courses in the 1968 school year. It began the systematic courses of the University Teaching Staff in Theology in the 1969 school year. It was recognized by the National Ministry of Education on April 4, 1969, thus being the first university-level center in Mar del Plata. It depended on the Catholic University of Mar del Plata until 1976. In that year, the courses taught at the Catholic University passed to the National University of Mar del Plata, leaving the School of Theology with autonomy as a private university establishment dependent on the Bishopric of Mar del Plata, approved by the Ministry of Culture and Education of the Nation. The University School of Theology is in charge of: The Department of Social Doctrine of the Church (created in 1998) The Paul VI Open Chair of Christian Thought (created in 1998) The Department of Conservation of the Church's Cultural Heritage (created in 1989) Since its creation, it has dictated the career of University Professor in Theology and from 1998 to 2012 the Professorship in Catechesis.
